cheery tune thursday

Here's another classic that I learnt when I was young.  Isn't it amazing how when you get older, you can remember word for word the lines of a song from school, yet you can find yourself standing in the supermarket with a complete mind blank of what you went in for?  I must say though I am kind of glad I can sing along to this.  What use would it be to be able to recite shopping lists from long ago?

This Mills Brothers version of Yellow Bird is really a delight.  Now I just need to relax and ready myself for the coming weekend.

2-kindle household

My reading habits have been transformed this year since I got my first eBook reader.  I had strategically placed it on my Christmas list as I am keen to keep up with changes in the publishing industry for my day-to-day job.  I didn't realise though what a convert I would become, in fact I've become a bit of an eBook bore.  There are probably worse things to be in to though, and it can't be that bad since I have even managed to get my husband addicted.

Earlier in the year I went to lunch with some (German) work colleagues and mentioned that my husband had given me a Kindle for Christmas and how excited I was about it.  Now my German is not that bad, but this comment drew silence across the table.  Jaws dropped and people stopped eating until I realised the misunderstanding. It appeared that some of those present thought I was announcing some "special family news".  Although Amazon's bestselling eBook reader goes by its universal name in this country, some Germans still get caught out and think it means "little child":)

viennese nights

March was very busy with work travel, hence the blog silence.  I was in Vienna at the beginning and the end of the month for congresses, a perfect opportunity to catch some opera.  During the last trip I finally made it to the Staatsoper with all the serious opera lovers.  Although I had booked a ticket weeks in advance, I could only get a restricted view seat in the gallery which basically meant I couldn't see half the stage.  Sadly it was the half where most of the action was taking place and I missed the most crucial moments of Tosca.

Being so high up in the theatre though give me a perfect view of the stunning chandelier.  I am quite taken with sparkly lights and couldn't resist taking some pictures.  My hotel in the Prater offered me another light show every evening as I could see the famous Riesenrad from my bedroom window.   I'll visit the ferris wheel next time I'm in Vienna - it's the sort of thing I would want to do in company.  Besides I think I need to watch The Third Man before taking a ride.

murder mystery mania

For the lonnnngggg holiday weekend I am catching up on some TV.  Back-to-back episodes of The Killing between now and Tuesday. Well maybe I'll head out today for some retail therapy. But what else is a girl to do with so many public holidays?

I'm not really on the market for a new woolly jumper, but if I was I might be interested in this handknit treasure.  Buy it here.
